Abstract

Every stream of human endeavor, including the college community, is seeing a daily increase in the desire to embrace the worldwide trend of moving toward a digital society. Societies seek to digitalize their fundamental processes and create cutting-edge resident services. There are high expectations for IoTs and communication networks, which are being built and improved globally. It is expected that the college campus and other ecosystems with similar characteristics will benefit from this boom in communication technology and IoTs. The study of smart campuses is a response to the more dynamic use of the campus and the strain it is putting on its human, financial, and energy resources. Student populations are more unpredictable, the campus community is more transitory, and finance is less assured. Campus strategies, therefore, emphasize resource efficiency and demand investment in management information to enhance decision-making. Here, we propose a strategy that could make it easier to build a sophisticated and safe campus. We concentrate mainly on one component of the smart campus, and that is safety and security. The main goal of safety and security information management is to allocate campus safety and security resources as efficiently as possible. A case study of the Edo State Polytechnic campus is presented, where smart technology in the form of a CCTV system with an SMS alert and motion detection algorithm is used to enhance the detection and surveillance experience within the campus.
