An Application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in an English Class

This research aims to investigate the effects of the application of information technology on improving students’ speaking competence in English classes. 32 students of grade 10A at an ethnic boarding high school participated in the action research where different ICT softwares were applied to teach speaking skills for 12 weeks. The findings of the study showed a significant difference in students’ speaking performance. It is therefore hoped that the research will provide greater understandings of the effects of the application of information technology on improving students' speaking skills and will be widely implemented in English classrooms to yield higher results and positive outcome in the application of information technology to improve speaking skills in English classes.
