Abstract

Medical nutrition therapy is a therapeutic approach in treating both medical and surgical conditions and associated symptoms using specific, tailor-made nutrition interventions by trained medical professionals. Nearly a half of the intensive care nurses having inadequate knowledge in medical nutrition therapy would hinder the effectiveness of patient care in ICUs. Therefore Inclusion of updated knowledge in nursing curriculum and regular professional development activities for nursing officers in the field of medical nutrition therapy would immensely help to deliver a better patient care at Sri Lankan critical care setting.
