Abstract

The current global economic model has entered the fourth wave namely the creative economy. The future destinations don’t only depend on the strength of their natural resources, but also on the creativity and innovation. The development of tourism based on the creative economy is very important to be reviewed as the basis for the pattern of tourism development as it has developed in Indonesia, Europe, and China. The research method of literature review or literature study is used to answer the research problem. This research method is carried out by examining theories and concepts of tourism development and the creative economy derived from literature, as well as articles in published journals, empirical studies of the creative economy. Development does not only focus on economic issues, but also on socio-cultural development, heritage or cultural development in tourism. The economic era based on the creative economy as a new idea has helped rethink the intrinsic value of development that will encourage networks, linkages and interdependence. The creative industry cannot exist without the creative economy, and the core of the creative economy is the cultural and creative industry which places art, culture, and cultural arts, business, and technology as its pillars.
