Abstract

The current study explored the impact of instructional technology on the improvement of speaking skills for first-year students at Integrated Polytechnic Regional College Kitabi. It included both qualitative and quantitative methodologies, and a sample of 132 respondents was chosen using purposive and census methods. SPSS was used to analyze the data that was gathered through interviews and questionnaires.

The study found that students as well as lecturers have positive mindset toward using ICT as a tool to improve English-speaking skills. It proved that using the pertinent instructional technologies to help students and lecturers enhance their speaking skills was beneficial. Conversely, the study identified some challenges that hamper the efficient use of these technological tools. It revealed that students face a variety of hurdles, including not having personal technological gadgets to utilize wherever and whenever they wish and a lack of enough ICT facilities at the college. Therefore, this study postulates that English language lecturers should effectively use ICT as a teaching tool to develop their English-speaking abilities, and the college authorities should consider the importance of ICT as a teaching and learning tool and increase ICT infrastructure to serve this purpose.
