This study investigates the effect of welding current on the mechanical properties of 5mm A36LCS using TIG welding process. Two joints, lap and butt, were selected for the study. The study found that (a) UTS of the welded joints increased with current from 80A to 110A, but declined afterwards. This was attributed to the amount of heat of fusion generated by the current and consequently the bead sized formed. After 110A however, some elements burn out to diminish strength of joint. At 110A, Lap joint recorded UTS value of 67.74Mpa with fracture value of 52.24Mpa and Butt 110A also recorded UTS value of 81.13Mpa and the fracture value of 41.91Mpa. (b) Hardness was highest at 110A for both joints, with the butt joint exhibiting significantly higher hardness value as compared to the lap joints. This was attributed to the heat dissipation due to surface exposure of bead to ambient conditions.
