Pedestrian pathways are public facilities designed to support the comfort and safety of pedestrians. However, the pedestrian pathway in front of the Faculty of Engineering is often underutilized by its users. This phenomenon is believed to be influenced by various environmental factors, particularly the high intensity of sunlight. This study aims to identify the factors contributing to the low usage of the pedestrian pathway. Using a qualitative approach, the research employs in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis. Data were collected from various informants, including students and lecturers, to gain diverse perspectives on the issue. The results of the study indicate that intense sunlight is one of the main obstacles, exacerbated by a lack of supporting elements such as shade trees or canopies. In addition, the poor condition of the pedestrian pathway, including inadequate connectivity and discomfort during use, also affects its utilization. These findings provide a deeper understanding of the barriers to pedestrian pathway usage in the Faculty of Engineering area and can serve as a foundation for strategic improvements to the facilities, promoting more comfortable and sustainable mobility.
