In this article we examine the history of different new product development (NPD) processes and their application. As an example, “design thinking” is subjected to a closer examination. While “design thinking” has been made quite popular and commercialized during the last twenty years, there is little scientific examination on whether or not design thinking actually provides what it claims to do: put the user / client first.
