Economic Impact on Sesame Production and Its Main Problem: Its Commercialization due to the Existence of Intermediaries

Анотація

This article refers to the economic impact generated by sesame production in Mexico. The main producing states of this crop are: Sinaloa, Guerrero, Chiapas, Sonora, Michoac?n, Oaxaca and Jalisco, which according to the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) in 2023, 50,812.03 tons of this seed were produced. However, most of the producers dedicated to this crop are characterized by being low-income, so they do not have advanced technology for production or adequate channels for its commercialization.

Producers dedicated to the cultivation of sesame have not been able to organize themselves to carry out the distribution of their product to foreign markets, due to the existence of intermediaries who are responsible for collecting all the crops in the region, to be delivered directly to large companies, either to be industrialized or destined for export and thus respond to the needs of foreign markets that demand increasingly larger volumes and better quality.
