Determinants of Homelessness of the Elderly in the Streets (City of Puno, 2022)

Extreme poverty is intimately linked to the destitution of the elderly population, who have to resort to a series of individual survival strategies in the streets in order to survive. The objective was to establish the determinants of the condition of destitution of older adults exposed in the streets of the city of Puno. The methodology was oriented from the mixed approach, descriptive design; the population (20) were older adults who beg in crowded places in the city of Puno and/or demonstrate their skills that they consider as survival strategies. The results that were arrived at were the following: the high incidence factors for the condition of begging are given by the pauper economic income; abandonment by their children, the presence of diseases depression and anxiety; physical and emotional neglect by children, family and the State, and finally, 80% do not access social programs many of them are not targeted by the SISFOH (Contigo, Pension 65, FISE and Solidarity bonus pre post pandemic).
